Dental Hygeine tips for children

01/24/2018
We all know how hard it is to convince children that brushing their teeth is beneficial! There are a few ways you can help your children have great oral hygiene to avoid future cavities, fillings and extractions.

Fun Toothbrushes and Toothpastes!

Companies have come out with great child-friendly toothbrushes and toothpastes lately. The recommended brushing time for children is two minutes - some of these great companies have released tooth brushes that play fun music for two minutes. This way, the child knows when their two minutes is up! Flavoured pastes like bubble-gum toothpaste is a alternative for children who do not like the taste of regular mint toothpaste.

Limit Snacks and Sugary Treats!

Teaching children the types of foods that are good for their teeth and that are low in sugar is a great way for their own self-awareness. Frozen soft drinks and sugary snacks cause cavities and sharp pain in their teeth. The best types of food for children to eat regularly are fruit, vegetables and foods high in calcium.

Flossing!

If children find flossing with regular floss difficult, there is another option! Silicone floss!! Silicone floss is a softer, gentle approach for children. Silicone floss is made from a softer material, and has two little loops on each side for the child's fingers to fit perfectly in. This floss is available to purchase at Scone Dental Surgery or selected pharmacies.
